24 Hours of Disney!

140-Disney Character "Ultimate Tweet" Announces All-Night Party 24 Hours of Disney Preview
by: Isaac Needleman

One of my favorite things to do at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is to ride Thunder Mountain at night.  My nephew and I got lucky one night and rode it while the fireworks went off.  It was spectacular.  So when I heard that Magic Kingdom is going to be open for 24 hours on May 23rd to May 24th from 6:00 AM to 6:00 AM local time, I got a little excited.  Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park in Anaheim will also be open for 24 hours that day.

What would it be like riding Space Mountain at 3 AM?  Or should I ride the Haunted Mansion during the witching hour?  I think it’s going to be exciting, but my worry  is the crowd.  I know it’s going to be crowded.  I remember when I was out in Los Angeles back in 2012 and Disneyland did their 24-hour thing and actually closed the gates for several hours because the park was at capacity.  I also heard stories of how long people had to wait in lines for rides, but no one seem mad or disappointed for going.  They all said it was a blast to be at the park at 4 AM.

Trust me, if I have to be up that late, I better be at Disney.  Will Disney handle the situation of crowds better this year?  And how about the Magic+ wristbands? How will they work?  Will the fastpass+ lines be open all night?  What about transportation if someone is staying at a Disney hotel?  Can I wake up at 1AM to catch a Disney bus and go to the park?

Don’t worry, I’ve reached out to Disney with several of these questions.  Because I believe in the old GI JOE saying “Knowing is half the battle.”

And knowing what Disney has in store is this.  You can dress up as your favorite Disney character.  Good or bad, you pick.  I believe I’ll see a lot of pirates. Of course Disney does have some rules with this, which can be found at the bottom of the article.  I plan on going in some sort of pajamas.  It just sounds too comfortable to pass up.  Plus I always wanted to eat a churro in my pjs while walking to Splash Mountain.

There will be events showcasing the good-vs-evil of classic Disney stories including character meet-and-greets throughout the parks, special entertainment, event merchandise, and food and beverage offerings.  So go meet the characters, watch the entertainment, it’s not to be missed.  Of course I say this so the lines for rides will be shorter.

Let’s talk about tickets.  I called Disney and ask if I could use a park hopper ticket after midnight on May 24th to get into the Magic Kingdom and then go to Epoct at noon on the very same day would it count as me using one of my park hoppers or two?   The answer, two.  Why because the operational day of the Magic Kingdom is the 23rd so keep that in mind if you have limited amount of park hopper tickets.

The 24 hour bash sounds like a lot of fun, but will it be to crowded to enjoy?  I’m being hopeful and saying no. Have you been to a 24-hour event?  If so please tell us what it was like and if you would go again?
